Snow Envy…

With all of this snowstorm action happening on the East coast, it’s hard not be a little jealous of the beautiful, clean, white, snowfall – inconvenient or not. Throwing this post back to a month ago, we had the privilege of getting one full actual day of snow this year when we were back in Nebraska, and it had been at least a couple years since I actually saw a Midwest winter be pretty in my time visiting home. I was stoked, and I know I get to wake up most mornings of the year not having to worry about being too insanely cold, how I’m going to get to work, or having to scrape my car (DEFINITELY don’t miss that), but I do actually really miss just having a good, cold, snow day. A reason to bundle up on the couch by the window in your PJs drinking tea or hot coffee, and a reason to throw all your plans and to-do lists out the window for the day. As “lucky” as southern-californians are, that is not EVER something we get the privilege of enjoying.

It only snowed the last couple of days I was home this year, but I always plan ahead in case since Nebraska weather can be pretty unpredictable. I didn’t bundle up to the full degree, since we weren’t outside much of the day when it snowed, but since we flew out that evening to head back to LA this outfit was appropriate. Warm and cozy to handle a short amount of time in this snowy weather, but light and layered enough to transition to California weather.

The jacket is my all-time favorite ribbed leather jacket from Zara, given to me by my boyfriend as a birthday gift. The zip skinnies are made of the absolute softest stretch denim material, and are SO comfortable for flying (seriously, I’d sleep in them), and the scarf was also a gift, this time from my sister. Top it all off with a cozy beanie from Target’s winter collection, and the layering was perfect for transitioning from a daytime of snow to a cool LA evening.

Flannel Friday…

IMG_9780IMG_9739IMG_9784IMG_9789

Being a Midwest girl, I have a natural affinity for flannel and all things cozy (thanks, winter…) I’m happy that even with the warm weather year round in LA, it still cools down enough during the evenings and occasional gloomy days to bust these out often enough. I am constantly layering with flannel and I definitely believe you can never have too many choices. When I stumbled upon this little number a while back at the end of summer I pretty much had to have it. This guy is WAY oversized, which I love right now, (I’m actually wearing an XS and it’s huge) …and it has fun little details such as hidden slit pockets lining up with the side-seams, and gingham sleeve linings for a fun little contrasting touch when you roll your sleeves. Not to mention….super soft and comfortable.

On this particular Friday it was pretty tough to get out of bed for the early morning studio record with the cast of our show. In fact, I skipped the shower and consequent blowdry in favor of an extra half hour of sleep and picking up coffee on my way. The studio gets pretty chilly, so this outfit was perfect for maintaining that “protesting getting out of bed today” look. Oh, wait. That’s every day. See why you can never have too many??

Paired with rolled navy skinnies and zipper booties in observance of fall, this particular flannel is one that can be dressed up or down. In fact, I just wore this on a night out tucked into a black skater skirt with sky-high heels last weekend to fancy it up. I highly recommend everyone snatch this one up, and maybe even size down a little! Yay for feeling small!

Red, White, + Blue Jean

Starting to feel like summer around here! I felt like picking it up a bit and tossing on some heels in a casual way, so for a particularly warm day, I chose an easy-breezy white summer dress (a total bank-breaker at $5 from the Urban Outfitters Surplus store), tossed on my absolute favorite red 2-strap heeled sandals, and for a touch of casual, added in my favorite J Brand denim vest, and a touch of interest/contrast with my little leopard belt.

I was too lazy to do anything with my hair this day, so I tossed it up, and accessorized with lots of bangles and a couple delicate necklaces. It was a perfect outfit for when I’d been feeling a little sloppy or too casual lately, yet not at all overdoing it for daytime wear. This whole look was a perfect vibe for summer and sun while still being comfortable.

I am definitely a sucker for a good pair of printed skinnies. These (from Zara), are among my favorite because they are so fun to add a pop of color to. Not only were they super affordable, the black and off-white print is not quite ikat and not quite baroque/brocade like most of the patterns we’ve been seeing so much of this season. Just a touch different, and I appreciate that. On top of all this, they are extremely comfortable, yet still good to throw on with a good heel for a night out almost anywhere. I chose red as my pop of color, in honor of some good friends who are packing up for an adventure and moving to Spain for a few years. These pants are comfortable because of the amount of stretch, which is why I would also recommend sizing down if possible. These guys stretched out so much after the first couple of wears that I can now take them off without unzipping or unbuttoning them. Talented, I know…I threw on my most comfortable pair of trusty red heels, and a small, tasseled bag to match, and had a great time catching up with people before sending them off to Spain. ¡Ole!
