I was thrilled recently to be asked to participate in a styling challenge with DailyLook, taking an LBD of my choice from their online selection and styling it from day to night. I love a good LBD, so this was a lot of fun for me. I feel like DailyLook has some amazing dresses available right now, and being asked to create some style sets was perfect timing to kick off a few Holiday Posts I have coming up.

After carefully browsing the selection of Little Black Dresses on DailyLook, and finding several I wanted in my closet, I chose this simple black shift number that I kept not being able to take my eyes off of. Maybe that sounds silly for this style challenge that is seasonally timed with the holidays. A good part of me wanted to gravitate toward some of the beautiful lace, embroidered, and beaded dresses I had in my wishlist, however, there was something about the extremely flattering shape of this simple shift, it’s versatility to fit the challenge, and the lack of shift dresses currently in my closet that sealed the deal for me. The winner for me was the “Richie Shift Dress”, and it’s affordable price and deep V made it the perfect amount “simple sexy”. I styled these two looks based on something I would actually wear to my office at work, and how I would switch it up to wear the same dress for a night out on the town, particularly a Holiday party.

For the Day Look, I paired the dress with comfortable, casual printed slip-ons, a neutral gray crossbody satchel, and gold art deco inspired bangles. An absolute staple in my wardrobe this time of year, along with several LBDs, is a faux fur vest, and I absolutely love the texture in this one. I know I know, this is probably not a super practical work outfit for a lot of people, but I am very fortunate that for working in a non-fashion related field, I get to pretty much be myself and wear whatever I want to work. I work for a major animation studio in a production environment, and half of my job is at a desk, and the other half is running around. So this is 100% perfect my job in entertainment.

Moving on to my Night Look, I definitely used the addition of some eye-catching accessories to spice this up and make it Holiday Party ready. The 60s-70s wannabe kid in me went straight to a fantastic over-the-knee boot to compliment the sleek tapered shape of the shift. With a mixture of more avant-garde statement jewelry and a contrasting beaded metallic clutch, this simple shift just went from zero to hero and is completely party ready without showing too much skin.

Classic Black for 2014.

Whoops. I swear I didn’t shake it. Gotta love those iPhone pics.

Oh, New Year’s Eve. What a night, every year. No matter how you look at it, it’s an excuse to let loose and have a good time. Let’s be real though, you’re doing one of two things: you’re either celebrating all you accomplished in 2013, and insist on making 2014 that much better…or you’re trying to forget 2013. Either way, alcohol is involved, and I swear everyone chooses to start the New Year off with a hangover because we can all only go up from there! Brilliant. Well guess what! I didn’t have a hangover this year, so I guess that leaves me with less to climb! Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time, I just stuck to one consistent beverage of choice instead of trying to be fair to all the other liquors out there. :)

This year, I was traveling for the holidays as I always do, and made it back to LA in time for New Year’s, but we didn’t really do a lot of planning. Sometimes, just winging it is the way to go. I don’t consider myself a “clubby” person, perhaps every once in a while a trip to Vegas is in order, but normally that is not an atmosphere that I crave. Clubs are always a last-minute option (and an expensive option to make it worth while for NYE), but this year, we kept it simple. We started the night by having a DELICIOUS dinner at The Six restaurant in Studio City, followed by…wait for it…a house party. And you know what? We had an awesome time with some fantastic people.

When it comes to dressing for NYE, I will admit there is always the urge to put on sequins and dress like a disco ball. In fact, the more sequins the better. Nothing rings in the New Year like built in confetti all over your body! And while the sequin and sparkle of New Year’s Eve will forever be a fun and classic approach, I actually ditched my rose gold sequin dress last minute in favor of something a little simpler. See, another “classic” of course, is the LBD. And this was a very simply-constructed dress with just the right amount of “party” involved with the peek-a-boo mesh areas. Not to mention, it was comfortable. Sorry sequins, I will save you for Vegas, or maybe next year. Simple as that, I chose a darker, exotic, all black approach. I kept my makeup pretty neutral with some smoky drama built up around the eyes, and it was perfect for the occasion without being overdone. Cheers to 2014, may it be our best year yet!
