I’m On A Boat!

DSC00653image2IMG_9857IMG_9846sq2DSC00542DSC00649DSC00608DSC00630

So, it’s been a while since I devoted an entire Saturday to drinking, and a little over a week ago we had the pleasure (no really, it was a ton of fun) of cramming two birthdays into one day, both in completely different areas of Los Angeles. Well, one of those happened to be a daytime booze cruise celebrating the birth and general awesomeness of my good friend Raechel! What do you get when you combine 60 people, an open bar, and a party yacht in Marina Del Rey? A DAMN GOOD TIME. Oh, and quite possibly a hangover before 8pm. I’m not a heavy drinker by any means, and Lord knows I’m not 21 anymore! So this was quite the feat. Or “defeat”, however you want to refer to it.

Regardless of how badly I should have napped before heading off to Birthday #2 in Hollywood, Birthday #1 was an awesome time with an amazing group of friends, most of whom it’s been too long since I’ve seen. And when you’re on a boat, it’s only natural to implement a nautical theme. In fact, the invitation read “Dressing in Nautical Attire Encouraged, and Drinking Like A Sailor Required.” Umm…done and done. By everyone…

I had a lot of fun going through my closet and picking something out to wear. I love a good theme, it always adds an extra element of challenge into getting ready! Everything I selected was something I already had on hand, and I think it hit the sailor vibe quite well without overdoing it. I chose to pair my high waisted red midi skirt from ASOS, a basic white crop, and my trusty navy and white nautical sweater for when it cooled down a bit after dark. It was gorgeous boat weather, hitting near 80 degrees in the sunshine, so this combination was perfect! And let’s be honest, how cute are my friends?!? This crew knows how to have a good time and there’s no one I would have rather spent my afternoon with! Cheers to Raechel, and Cheers to an amazing group of people just lovin’ life on a Saturday! :)

Flannel Friday…

IMG_9780IMG_9739IMG_9784IMG_9789

Being a Midwest girl, I have a natural affinity for flannel and all things cozy (thanks, winter…) I’m happy that even with the warm weather year round in LA, it still cools down enough during the evenings and occasional gloomy days to bust these out often enough. I am constantly layering with flannel and I definitely believe you can never have too many choices. When I stumbled upon this little number a while back at the end of summer I pretty much had to have it. This guy is WAY oversized, which I love right now, (I’m actually wearing an XS and it’s huge) …and it has fun little details such as hidden slit pockets lining up with the side-seams, and gingham sleeve linings for a fun little contrasting touch when you roll your sleeves. Not to mention….super soft and comfortable.

On this particular Friday it was pretty tough to get out of bed for the early morning studio record with the cast of our show. In fact, I skipped the shower and consequent blowdry in favor of an extra half hour of sleep and picking up coffee on my way. The studio gets pretty chilly, so this outfit was perfect for maintaining that “protesting getting out of bed today” look. Oh, wait. That’s every day. See why you can never have too many??

Paired with rolled navy skinnies and zipper booties in observance of fall, this particular flannel is one that can be dressed up or down. In fact, I just wore this on a night out tucked into a black skater skirt with sky-high heels last weekend to fancy it up. I highly recommend everyone snatch this one up, and maybe even size down a little! Yay for feeling small!

Classy-Casual…

IMG_9021IMG_9025IMG_9027This has got to be hands down one of the best purchases I have ever made at F21. This dress was suuuuper affordable, and I get compliments on it constantly, which I attribute to the print not looking like a cheap floral, as well as the cut. I just took quick snaps, so forgive me on the lack of detail here, but this dress is a high-neck cut that ties in the back above a V-cut, and has a little bit of a cut out in the front. The length is perfect for me, and the gathered waist is flattering. I typically wear this with minimal jewelry, maybe just a bangle or two to offset.

I feel like my arms are an area of my body I could improve on. We all know I have long monkey arms, you should see the monkey photos my sister loves to tag me in (ugh), but they’re not overly toned. Definitely room for improvement, but I feel like a high-neck dress or top is always a flattering choice, whether you’ve got great noodles going on or not. It draws attention upward, leaving just the right amount of skin showing to accentuate your arms and shoulders, and works whether you’ve got a big set of twins or small. This dress is appropriate for all occasions and I actually would say I wear it way more casually than I do in dressy situations. It’s just the right amount of easy-breezy middle ground for summer, paired with flat sandals it becomes a really great option for day-to-night transition without feeling underdressed or obligated to wear heels. Easily the best $16 I have ever spent at F21. Well done.
