I was thrilled recently to be asked to participate in a styling challenge with DailyLook, taking an LBD of my choice from their online selection and styling it from day to night. I love a good LBD, so this was a lot of fun for me. I feel like DailyLook has some amazing dresses available right now, and being asked to create some style sets was perfect timing to kick off a few Holiday Posts I have coming up.

After carefully browsing the selection of Little Black Dresses on DailyLook, and finding several I wanted in my closet, I chose this simple black shift number that I kept not being able to take my eyes off of. Maybe that sounds silly for this style challenge that is seasonally timed with the holidays. A good part of me wanted to gravitate toward some of the beautiful lace, embroidered, and beaded dresses I had in my wishlist, however, there was something about the extremely flattering shape of this simple shift, it’s versatility to fit the challenge, and the lack of shift dresses currently in my closet that sealed the deal for me. The winner for me was the “Richie Shift Dress”, and it’s affordable price and deep V made it the perfect amount “simple sexy”. I styled these two looks based on something I would actually wear to my office at work, and how I would switch it up to wear the same dress for a night out on the town, particularly a Holiday party.

For the Day Look, I paired the dress with comfortable, casual printed slip-ons, a neutral gray crossbody satchel, and gold art deco inspired bangles. An absolute staple in my wardrobe this time of year, along with several LBDs, is a faux fur vest, and I absolutely love the texture in this one. I know I know, this is probably not a super practical work outfit for a lot of people, but I am very fortunate that for working in a non-fashion related field, I get to pretty much be myself and wear whatever I want to work. I work for a major animation studio in a production environment, and half of my job is at a desk, and the other half is running around. So this is 100% perfect my job in entertainment.

Moving on to my Night Look, I definitely used the addition of some eye-catching accessories to spice this up and make it Holiday Party ready. The 60s-70s wannabe kid in me went straight to a fantastic over-the-knee boot to compliment the sleek tapered shape of the shift. With a mixture of more avant-garde statement jewelry and a contrasting beaded metallic clutch, this simple shift just went from zero to hero and is completely party ready without showing too much skin.

Embellished-Casual For Turkey Day!

ImageImageImageImage

Now that I’m finally out of my food coma, let’s talk about how gorgeous Thanksgiving was last week! I spent the day down in Manhattan Beach with my boyfriend and his family, and spent both the night before and morning of whipping up some desserts and appetizers. I made a couple gluten-free turkey, cranberry, and blue cheese flat breads that people scarfed (I was thrilled)…and not to brag, but my first ever pumpkin pie turned out pretty damn good, considering it was gluten-free and dairy free!

Those of you who know me well know that I have Celiac Disease, and have been on an involuntarily-strict gluten-free diet for the last 7 years or so. For many years I avoided cooking, and just got by having snacks and no-prep food as meals. Fortunately, I’ve evolved and have experimented with cooking and become quite proficient at it, creating interesting things and learning the best substitutes for recipes. Though this will probably never grow into a food blog, I do love the art of cooking and maybe one of the best joys I get is sharing it with others. Especially when it allows people to realize that “gluten-free” truly can taste amazing when the proper effort is put forth!

I chose an outfit that was easy to move around in during the hustle and bustle of my morning, but would embrace the warm temperature without being overdressed or underdressed. Holidays are special, and we should always look nice, but when you’re with family and friends it’s still important to be comfortable. This outfit did the trick, and I chose to pair a simple tee, loose-fit denim shirt, and flats with what would normally be a very dressy skirt. It was just the right amount of holiday glam while being extremely comfortable, and most importantly, ready to chow! It was an awesome day with wonderful people, who I am very thankful have let me into their life as family when I am far away from my own. :)
