I was thrilled recently to be asked to participate in a styling challenge with DailyLook, taking an LBD of my choice from their online selection and styling it from day to night. I love a good LBD, so this was a lot of fun for me. I feel like DailyLook has some amazing dresses available right now, and being asked to create some style sets was perfect timing to kick off a few Holiday Posts I have coming up.

After carefully browsing the selection of Little Black Dresses on DailyLook, and finding several I wanted in my closet, I chose this simple black shift number that I kept not being able to take my eyes off of. Maybe that sounds silly for this style challenge that is seasonally timed with the holidays. A good part of me wanted to gravitate toward some of the beautiful lace, embroidered, and beaded dresses I had in my wishlist, however, there was something about the extremely flattering shape of this simple shift, it’s versatility to fit the challenge, and the lack of shift dresses currently in my closet that sealed the deal for me. The winner for me was the “Richie Shift Dress”, and it’s affordable price and deep V made it the perfect amount “simple sexy”. I styled these two looks based on something I would actually wear to my office at work, and how I would switch it up to wear the same dress for a night out on the town, particularly a Holiday party.

For the Day Look, I paired the dress with comfortable, casual printed slip-ons, a neutral gray crossbody satchel, and gold art deco inspired bangles. An absolute staple in my wardrobe this time of year, along with several LBDs, is a faux fur vest, and I absolutely love the texture in this one. I know I know, this is probably not a super practical work outfit for a lot of people, but I am very fortunate that for working in a non-fashion related field, I get to pretty much be myself and wear whatever I want to work. I work for a major animation studio in a production environment, and half of my job is at a desk, and the other half is running around. So this is 100% perfect my job in entertainment.

Moving on to my Night Look, I definitely used the addition of some eye-catching accessories to spice this up and make it Holiday Party ready. The 60s-70s wannabe kid in me went straight to a fantastic over-the-knee boot to compliment the sleek tapered shape of the shift. With a mixture of more avant-garde statement jewelry and a contrasting beaded metallic clutch, this simple shift just went from zero to hero and is completely party ready without showing too much skin.

‘Braska Life.

Being home for Christmas was awesome, and the weather was completely up and down while I was back, but that’s what you get in Nebraska. A forecast literally doesn’t mean crap. The first portion of my trip was pretty cold, but the second half started to drastically warm up. So much so, that at about 43 degrees, the little neighbor boys decided to play basketball in their driveway in shorts and t-shirts. Ummm…that may be a bit of an over-compensation, kids. Put some clothes on. It’s still December in the Midwest.

This outfit combines a few of my amazing gifts received this year! I couldn’t wait to pair this new bag (from my mom), and pumps (from my sister), with these ultra-comfy stretch coated skinnies. Coated skinnies are the greatest thing since sliced bread this past year, and I can’t even have bread so that’s saying a lot. They are more affordable and manageable than leather pants, but still have that sleek, edgy look. The best way to do anything whether it be actual leather or a coated finish is skin tight. Trust me, nothing is worse than a leather-look pant that is sagging in the butt and knees and loose at the ankles. They should essentially be like a legging, but with a normal pant/jean-style thickness, seaming, and pocket structure. That said, you should typically size down as long as the stretch factor is decent. It will seem like there is no way you are gonna get them up at first, but that’s what you want because they will always stretch like mad after the first wear. Tip: do NOT put on leather or coated pants of any kind after just moisturizing your legs. I may or may not have learned my lesson yanking them on too soon post-shower and ripping some belt loops clean off. FAIL.

To stay cozy, I added warmth with a super-soft oversized sweater that is definitely my most over-worn piece of this winter by far, and an awesome sweater headwrap to keep my little ears warm in that winter wind! For the cherry on top, I added the totally rad Nebraska outline necklace my awesome sister got me, reppin’ a little of the homeland! I wore this running some errands, meeting a friend for coffee, and transitioned it right into dinner and a night out with friends in downtown Lincoln.
