Perfect Fall Maxi…

IMG_9543IMG_9548IMG_9510IMG_9591IMG_9604IMG_9636Fall is my absolute favorite time of year to shop. For some reason, there’s nothing I love more than sifting through varying pieces to use for layering. For some reason I feel like the possibilities are so much more endless than with summer or spring shopping, where the clothes tend to come off a little bit. It’s much easier to add interest and depth to an outfit when you’re piling it on.

That said, a little shout out to one of my best friends back home! My friend Megan has great style herself, and she knows the way to my heart when it comes to clothing for sure. My birthday was a couple of months ago and I found she had left me a lovely little present in my inbox to do some shopping at Urban Outfitters, and lord knows I can’t hang onto a gift card for very long, so I was quickly watching the inventory for something perfect and unique for fall when I came across this skirt. SOLD! Thanks Megan! You’re seriously the best :)

I was obsessed with this skirt the moment I saw it, from the gorgeous scarf print, to the beautiful fall-inspired bright colors, to the flattering length and fit. Don’t have to show me twice, it was in my cart so fast. This skirt was even better when it arrived, with the high waist making it easy to pair with crops and sweaters alike…not to mention hide those food bumps from a night of chowing at happy hour. I didn’t want to take away too much, so my first time wearing it, the pairing of choice was a simple whit crop top, allowing the pretty colors to really pop. For when it cooled down at night (because that is LA’s definition of fall – night time) I chose an awesome striped and oversized cardigan for added texture, and a bit of pattern mixing with the scarf print, and of course, topped off the look with my favorite hat for fall. For the cherry on top, you can never go wrong with layered delicate gold necklaces and rings. I think this is officially my go-to fall outfit for when I’m in a pinch and don’t want to think too hard. We may be seeing this one a lot….

Summer Floral.

Photos by the lovely Miss Kelly Black.

So the weather in LA has been scorching hot lately, and it seems like everyone is trying to get as close to naked as publicly acceptable…or some cases, what is not publicly acceptable.  Such as that woman at the beach the other day in her thong, or the girl I saw this morning supporting her very large chest with a very small string bikini who was nowhere near the beach, and nowhere near a cover-up of any kind. And I’m sure the naked woman who frequently streaks through downtown is just having the time of her life today. (Welcome to wacky LA!)

I get it, we’re only 2 degrees off from having triple digit heat as I write this, so I understand the need to lose some layers, however, let’s keep it socially acceptable people! When I need to beat the heat I tend to go for sheer gauzy fabrics, flowy tops and dresses that provide some comfort and ventilation, a fun mani-pedi, and of course bright summer colors. I recently celebrated a friend’s birthday at one of my favorite places, Malibu Wines Tasting Room, deep in the hills of Malibu. It was an awesome afternoon sipping on chilled wine, snacking on cheese and crackers, and attempting to stay cool in that pre-summer sun that is just relentless in the open California air.

Being it was a semi-casual birthday vibe, I of course took the opportunity to wear one of my fun summer sundresses, keeping it casual with a breathable bralette as my choice undergarment, and flat sandals. My wonderful friend Kelly was kind enough to snap a couple of photos for me before the sweating got too intense! I absolutely love bright florals, and I jumped at the chance to wear this dress paired with a fun fuschia clutch and coordinating nail color. For those who don’t know, yellow, especially a golden/canary yellow, is my favorite color, and the bright colors in the floral of this dress means I have a lot of options for adding brightly colored heels or accents to the outfit. This print is about as easy as color mixing gets!
