Rainy LA Weekend: Part 1

I can’t tell you how stoked I was for a rainy weekend! Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve heard thunder?!? To be clear, this is only the second time in my 2.5+ years in LA that I’ve heard it. And this time, it was a real actual rainstorm, at least as much as we’re gonna get in Southern California. I miss the truly insane white rain downpours of the Midwest. Where it’s too dangerous to drive because it’s just a loud angry blanket of white on your windshield. Those are so awesome to sit on a porch and listen to. Siiiiiiigggghhh…

Anyway, I’ve adapted to become like most LA kids weather-wise, in the sense that I don’t own an umbrella or very many precipitation-appropriate shoes. Somehow, all my rain accessories got lost in my transition from Nebraska to LA, so my options were limited! However, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of staying cozy, and the forced-casual vibe of the entire weekend when going out with friends. It’s so nice to have an excuse to “take it easy”, but that’s what the rain does here – slows people down for a few days.

Day 1 of  “Rainmageddon” (SO many Californians literally thought the world was ending, it was slightly embarrassing) consisted of my over-the-knee Dolce Vita boots to keep out the water, burgundy skinnies, a printed tank, utility jacket, and the MOST important rain accessory: HEADWEAR. For my weekend, I selected just one beanie to carry with me at all times, because as I’ve posted before here and here, my hair just gets out of control in the rain and moisture. I do, sadly, take the time to either curl my hair on rainy days, or at least use a sea salt texturizing spray, to achieve a look that is “messable.” Meaning, I have to have body and texture added in advance to my fine, stick straight hair, or we’re talking a very unattractive wet-dog look. I need styles that can handle becoming messy and shapeless throughout the day. A scarf is always great because you can loosely hide your locks a bit if they get too out of control.
