90’s Kid.

I love that the 90s are back in a modern way. I remember when this first started happening when I was in college and my friends and I were all so “NO! WE LOVE THE 80S!”….what posers. We barely remember the 80s. Let’s be real, the 90s were what we remembered most, and for me, it’s definitely been the best decade of my existence. Don’t even get me started on the music…oh my. Such a magical era for one-hit wonders – some, so bad that they were good. I could go on and on about all the music I submersed myself in at a young age. After all, the 90s were elementary school for me. But I was not unaware of pop culture, and I remember being pretty in tune. I listened to everything….bubblegum pop, techno pop, alternative rock, punk, ska, and grunge rock.

With that, came catching on to some of the fashion trends surrounding these industries including the post-grunge flannel look of the mid 90s. Disclaimer: this does not mean I was a well-dressed child. We avoid all pictures from ages 8-12, naturally. So as we roll into winter in LA, I made my own updated version of the 90s teenage grunge look to stay warm and layered. I paired an oversized flannel, sweater, and beanie, with skinny jeans, aviators, layered jewelry, and lace-up high heeled boots: a very glam and updated take on lace up Dr. Marten’s  boots we all knew and loved in 1996.

Bottom line, the 90s were epic, and let’s just all be glad that as a 5th grader I didn’t know what the words actually meant in the song “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Eye Blind until I was in college! ;)
